The journey through the less-traveled paths offers an opportunity for a truly magnificent and transformative experience amidst the wilderness of the Manaslu trek circuit. Day 1 of this trek is sure to mesmerize you, setting the stage for what lies ahead.
Nestled in Nepal’s Midwestern region, Mount Manaslu soars as the eighth-highest peak globally at 8163m. This area boasts not only its namesake summit but also other prominent peaks like Himalchuli (7893m), Ngadichuli (7871m), and Shringi (7178m) alongside numerous majestic snow-covered giants.
Venturing deeper into these rugged terrains leads explorers to Tibetan Buddhist settlements where ancient traditions coexist harmoniously with breathtaking artistry showcased in monasteries, stupas chortens, and maniwalls – all monumental symbols of unwavering faith in Buddhism.
The trails wind through rocky terrain, providing a challenging but manageable ascent. At its pinnacle, the Larkya La pass (5135m) offers a breathtaking vantage point with panoramic views of Manaslu, Himalchuli, and surrounding peaks.
Traversing these terrains demands both attentiveness and caution. Additionally, securing permits such as the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit and Manaslu Conservation Area Permit is essential.
Completing this trek entails not only witnessing awe-inspiring mountain vistas but also requires mental fortitude and physical endurance. While accompanied by seasoned guides and capable porters, trekkers must be prepared for the long journey’s mental challenges.
The trail includes uphill climbs as well as steep descents in certain areas; thus carrying personal knee support is advisable. Furthermore, maintaining proper cardiovascular fitness along with adequate acclimatization is imperative for success on this demanding adventure.
Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel
Upon your arrival at the airport, our dedicated staff will welcome you with a personalized name card before accompanying you to your hotel via private transportation. Later in the day, join us for an intimate meeting to discuss and plan the details of your upcoming trip.
Drive to Machha Khola
Today, our trekking guide will arrive at your hotel early at 7:00 am to collect you. We will then embark on a nine-hour journey by 4WD Jeep to Machha Khola. The drive from Kathmandu to Dhading Bensi takes around 3.5 hours and is comfortable, but the subsequent four-hour drive to Machha Khola is along rough dirt roads.
Trek to Jagat (1,340m)
Today, we begin our adventure following breakfast by the river, passing through tobacco and buckwheat fields and alongside rocks smoothed by the flowing water. We'll ascend stone steps to reach the hot springs located in the heart of Tatopani, a small terraced village known for its thermal waters. After a pleasant hike through the forest with stunning waterfalls, crossing a suspension bridge, and a brief stretch of wooded trail, we'll arrive at Dobhan before ascending further up stone steps toward Jagat, which marks the gateway to Manaslu Park.
Trek from Jagat to Pewa Village (1,800m)
After having breakfast, start by crossing the suspension bridge and passing a few stunning waterfalls while taking in the view of the Shringi Himal Range. As you descend along the trail towards the village of Sirdibas (1420m), enjoy views of lush green forests and rhododendron trees before ultimately reaching Pewa.
Trek from Pewa to Ghap (2,100m)
The path ascends steeply from Pewa, passing by several beautiful Chorten along the way before reaching Deng (1860m). Following that, you will traverse rocky trails alongside the Gandaki River to arrive at Ghap. The trail then winds through the valley and climbs up sharply to the small village of Deng (1860 m), offering views of Kutang Himal and distinctive mani stones characteristic of Tibetan influence in the high Himalayas. Crossing the large Buri Gandaki twice ahead, there are frequent changes in elevation as you journey through the gorge while taking in breathtaking vistas.
Trek to Lho (3,200m)
Today is a fantastic day for trekking. We pass through dense forests, cross the Budhi Gandaki wooden bridge, and make a gentle ascent up to the Tibetan-run lodge Namrung with beautiful mountain views. Further along the trail, we come across extensive pastures leading to the ancient Lihi village and then descend towards the Lidanda Glaciers before reaching the picturesque Tibetan village of Sho at 3000 meters above sea level. The journey to Lho offers spectacular views of Ngadi Chuli and Manaslu itself in the afternoon. We set up camp in Lho, a sprawling village adorned with numerous prayer flags, located within close proximity to a small lodge and Gomba monastery. The sunsets and sunrises from our campsite are truly amazing.
Trek to Sama Gompa (3,500m)
After breakfast, the trail takes us from the new Gomba and then climbs to the picturesque Tibetan village of Shayla with stunning mountain views. The trek then passes through a traditional alpine area leading to Pung Gyan Gomba, traverses fields to reach the 500-year-old settlement Sama Gaon, or Ro, and two unique wooden Gombas at the same time. Dzongka Dzong (fortress) stands at the Tibet border, a few days' walk from Sama Gaon; it remained active until taken over by Gorkhas in the late 19th century and was later used as shelter by Tibetan guerrillas until 1992 when it became accessible for treks again. Utilize your afternoon to hike up to visit the old Gomba settlement above town and explore captivating Sama Gaon village streets.
Acclimatization Day (4,500m)
To adapt to the higher altitude, we will get used to the environment here in Sama Gaon. We'll spend the night in this area and during the day we will visit Birendra Tal and explore the Manaslu base camp, with a short exploration of Sama Gaon in the evening.
Trek to Samdo (3,850m)
Another day of breathtaking mountain vistas, passing by the extensive mani walls and Chorten at Kermo Kharka before descending to the Bhudi Gandaki and the ancient herding settlement of Samdo. The residents here are Tibetan, having been granted this land by the king of Jumla over 500 years ago. This area used to be a significant trading post between China and India in ancient times. Take a stroll around the village and observe how the inhabitants lead a predominantly Tibetan way of life, tending to their yaks, sheep, goats, horses, and barley fields.
Acclimatization Day
We will spend a day in Samdo to discover the village and Gombas, reminiscent of old Tibet. This extra day also serves as an opportunity for anyone experiencing difficulty with acclimatization. A wonderful activity is a trek towards Manaslu Base Camp, offering breathtaking views of the lake, glacier, and valley. Alternatively, you can embark on a hike up to Pung Gyen Gompa at 3870 meters, where you can explore its unique natural beauty.
Trek to Dharamsala High Camp (4,460m)
The path takes us along the ancient trade route heading towards Tibet, where we will cross a bridge and ascend through the bustling markets of Larkya bazaar. After approximately three hours of climbing past glaciers and witnessing increasingly stunning views, we reach the Dharamsala campsite, situated at high altitude for the Larkya La pass. Here, we'll enjoy lunch surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery and observe blue sheep grazing in their territory on nearby barren hillsides. The cold temperature and high altitude are palpable here, so take it easy in the afternoon while keeping warm. We'll have an early dinner to prepare for crossing the pass tomorrow.
Cross Larkya La (5,215m) and trek to Bimtang (3,590m)
After enjoying a hearty breakfast, the trail leads to the North side of the Larkya Glaciers from where we can see Cho Danda and later Larkya Peak. After walking for about four hours, we will reach the top of the Larkya La (4930m) with breathtaking panoramic views of mountains such as Himlung Himal (7126 meters), Cheo Himal (6820 meters), Gyagi Kung, Kang Kuru (6981 meters), and Annapurna II (7937 meters). The descent is steep as we make our way through moraines towards Bimtang.
Day 13
Trek from Bimthang to Dharapani (1,860m)
The trail descends through the lush forest, and you will arrive at Dhaparani. On this last day in the Manaslu region, you will walk across Dudh Khola, to reach Dharapani.
Drive from Dharapani to Kathmandu
You will travel from Dharapani to Kathmandu, and the journey typically takes 9 hours.

This trip was an extraordinary and awe-inspiring experience. The magnificent views left me speechless every single day, and reaching base camp felt like the realization of a long-cherished dream. Sherpa Village Trek not only provided seamless support but also displayed a commendable level of professionalism throughout our journey.
If you’re considering trekking in Nepal, I highly recommend choosing Sherpa Village Trek for an unforgettable experience. Specifically, requesting Messi as your guide, whether you’re traveling solo or with a small or large group, will undoubtedly enhance your journey further.
One of the most scenic treks I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I couldn’t recommend my guide Messi more highly. He not only displayed exceptional skill and knowledge but also showed remarkable warmth, humor, and kindness throughout our journey. In addition, our porters Ronaldo and Benzema demonstrated unwavering commitment to ensuring our safety and well-being at every step of the trek.
For the Manaslu circuit trek, you will be required to obtain a Manaslu Conservation Area Permit and an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit. Additionally, you will also need a special permit for the Manaslu region. If you plan to combine Tsum Valley with your trek, then you must acquire the Tsum Valley Special Permit as well.
The optimal time for trekking the Manaslu circuit is in spring (March to April) and autumn (September to November).
You usually need to walk for about 6-7 hours (approximately 15 km) each day. When you ascend over 3000 meters in altitude, the distance covered per day will decrease to around 10-12 km.
Yes, we will send you a representative to pick you up at the airport and take you to your hotel.
