Located in Nepal’s captivating Langtang region, this 13-day expedition offers both an exciting ascent and breathtaking natural scenery. Beginning in Kathmandu, you’ll follow a scenic trail to the Yala Peak Base Camp.
However, Yala Peak Climbing is more than just reaching great heights; it provides a rich cultural experience. While trekking through stunning landscapes, you’ll have the chance to interact with local Tamang communities. Observe their enduring traditions, understand their way of life, and create cherished memories that go beyond the climb itself.
At an elevation of 5,500 meters (18,045 feet), standing at the summit of Yala Peak presents a magnificent panorama. Shishapangma, Dorje Lakpa, Ganchenpo, Naya Kang, Tserko Ri, and Langtang Lirung majestically grace the horizon.
The sense of achievement when you reach this grand peak amidst the Himalayas will be an unforgettable moment etched in your memory forever. One outstanding feature of Yala Peak Climbing is its accessibility for climbers with different skill levels—whether seasoned mountaineers or novices seeking an exhilarating introduction to climbing experiences alike.
Arrival in Kathmandu
Our team will greet you at the airport arrival terminal with a personalized name card and accompany you to your hotel in a private vehicle. We will also have a brief meeting about the trip in the evening.
Preparation day and sightseeing in Kathmandu
After you finish breakfast, you will meet the trekking guides and assistants. The sightseeing in Kathmandu will include visits to different cultural heritage sites that are listed with UNESCO, such as medieval Palaces in Kathmandu-Bhaktapur-Lalitpur Durbar squares. Other notable sites to see are the Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath, and Swayambhunath Stupa. Later in the evening, take a stroll along the Thamel streets - which is an ideal location for purchasing trekking gear.
Drive to Sybru Bensi (1,462m)
The journey from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi typically takes around nine hours by bus or Land Cruiser, depending on the size of the group. You travel northward from Kathmandu, winding through picturesque foothills and ridgeline views until you reach Syabru Besi via Dhunche. Along the way, as you drive alongside the Trishuli River, you can catch glimpses of Ganesh Himal, terraced fields, and lush green hills. Passing through Dhunche may give you a sense of heading into more remote areas. Some sections of the road may be rough and challenging, especially during monsoon season.
Trek to Lama Hotel (2,500m)
Today marks the beginning of our trek. The initial section of the trail runs alongside the Langtang Khola and leads into a dense rhododendron forest. Then, your journey gradually climbs to Rimche (2,400 meters) via Bamboo (1,960 meters), situated along the bank of Langtang Khola - an ideal spot for lunch. Finally, your path becomes level as you approach Lama Hotel where, if fortunate, you may catch sight of red pandas, monkeys, and even bears along the way.
Trek to Langtang Village (3,307m)
The path traces Gumanechok, known as Ghoda Tabela in the local language, which translates to Horse Stable. Beyond this point, the trail becomes gently sloping and offers stunning views of grazing Yaks in the valley. Langtang village stands out as a particularly ancient and authentic settlement along this trekking route, with increasingly breathtaking vistas as we approach the mountains.
Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3,798m)
After having breakfast in Langtang village, we embark on a brief trek and arrive at Kyanjin Gompa. This location features an old Buddhist monastery as well as a nearby cheese factory. Following lunch, there is the opportunity to explore the surrounding area of Kyanjin Gompa.
Trek to Yala Peak Base Camp (4,940m)
After our morning meal, we set off for the base camp of Yala Peak. The ascent takes us through meadows and eventually a rugged trail. We stay overnight at the tented camp located at the base of Yala Peak.
Acclimatization Day
This day is set aside as a reserve or acclimatization day. We will use this time to make our final preparations for the ascent of Yala Peak. Our guides will offer training on using fixed ropes and crampons, along with other technical guidance.
Trek to Lobuche (4,910m)
It's time to reach the peak of Yala. In the morning, we pursue our aspirations and admire the stunning sights of Mt. Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, Shishapangma, and other majestic snow-covered peaks. Afterward, we descend and arrive at Kyanjin Gompa for our overnight accommodation.
Trek back to Lama Hotel (2,500m)
After having breakfast early in Kyanjin Gompa, we descend back to Lama Hotel.
Trek to Syabru Bensi (1,462m)
You descend from the mountains and return to Syabru Bensi, which marks both the starting and ending point of your trek.
Drive back to Kathmandu
After having breakfast, we will return to Kathmandu from Syabru Bensi, which will take about 9 hours by bus or Land Cruiser, depending on the size of the group. You will be taken back to the same hotel where you started.
Leisure Day
Upon your return to Kathmandu, you can delight in shopping for gifts and souvenirs for your loved ones.
Departure
The journey concludes, and our Airport Representative will transport you to Kathmandu International Airport for your departure from Nepal. Thus, the Yala Peak Climbing adventure comes to an end.

Yala Peak doesn’t require advanced technical skills, but it’s high altitude of 5500m results in lower oxygen levels and increased energy exertion. Additionally, there is exposure to the elements. It’s important to prioritize hydration and maintain a steady pace.
At an elevation of 5,500 m (18,000 ft) above sea level, the summit offers a panoramic view that includes Shishapangma at 8,013 m (26,289 ft).
Foreigners are required to pay approximately US$30 or NPR 3,000 for Yala Peak climbing permits, which remain valid for a month. These permits can be acquired from either the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu or Pokhara, as well as from various trekking agencies.
