A motorcycling journey to the Everest Base Camp is a thrilling way to experience the base of Mount Everest. Not only will you arrive at the EBC on the Tibetan side, but you’ll also have the opportunity to discover Tibet and its incredible beauty.
Traveling along Friendship Highway en route to Everest Base Camp involves crossing five high passes exceeding 4,500 meters before descending towards what was once home to Dalai Lama. The route consists mostly of tarmac roads with some non-technical off-road segments making it suitable for motorbike travel which substantially eases your journey.
During your time in various cities, there will be opportunities happening at numerous heritage sites where Tibetan history and traditions can be discovered first-hand.
The tour comes with experienced guides possessing extensive knowledge regarding bike mechanics who also ensure customizable options according to your preferences – including tailor-made itineraries or joining standard departure dates. The program accommodates both small and large groups though smaller teams may incur higher costs in Tibet due to constraints related to total group size.
Arrival in Kathmandu
Welcome to Nepal, the Himalayan country. When you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, a representative from Sherpa Village Trek will greet you and help you transfer to your hotel in Kathmandu. After freshening up, in the evening you will be briefed with an overview of your trip.
Kathmandu Sightseeing and Trip Preparation
Today, following breakfast, you'll embark on a guided tour to visit some of the most significant historical and spiritual sites in Kathmandu. These landmarks are all recognized as World Heritage Sites, such as the revered Hindu temple Pashupatinath, the renowned 'Monkey Temple' Swayambunath, the Buddhist shrine of Bouddhanath (one of the largest Stupas globally), and the medieval city Patan.
Bhaktapur Durbar Square Sightseeing and Trip Preparation
Today, you will have the opportunity to discover the historic city of Bhaktapur and make arrangements for the rest of your trip.
Ride from Kathmandu to Shtabrubesi (1,140m)
After receiving your visa from the embassy, you will start your motorbike journey to Shyabrubesi. You will travel 40 kilometers to Prithibi and then turn left towards the Kerung border. The road conditions make for a long journey through remote areas of Langtang National Park until Rasuwagadi, passing through Nuwakot and Dhunche before staying overnight in Shyabrubesi.
Ride to Kerung (2,750m) and Acclimatization
Today, after having breakfast at the guesthouse, you will travel 18 kilometers to reach the border between Nepal and Tibet. Once the necessary border formalities are completed, you will continue driving for 24 kilometers to arrive in Kerung. Upon reaching Kerung, take some time to explore the local town and rest for acclimatization before any further drives on the following day.
Ride to Tingri (4,300m)
Today, following your morning meal, you will continue on a journey uphill to the highest plateau in the world. The unique sights of the Tibetan landscape will provide an overwhelming sensation of being at the pinnacle of the earth. If conditions allow, you'll be treated to awe-inspiring views of stunning Himalayan mountain ranges, such as Mt Cho Oyu (8,201m), and Mt Xishapagma (8,012m), although they may seem small in comparison to the vastness of the Tibetan plateau. From Tingri, there is also an opportunity to marvel at the grandeur of Mt. Everest (8,848m).
Ride to Ronbuk (4,980m)
Today, after your morning meal, you will traverse Gawu La Pass at an elevation of 5,198 meters and journey to Ronbuk through the stunning Tibetan landscape. You'll have the opportunity to visit Ronbuk Monastery (the highest monastery in the world) and take in breathtaking views of Mount Everest from up close. (Within 4 kilometers of Ronbuk, access for vehicles is restricted by the Chinese government; therefore, you will travel by electric bus which operates every 30 minutes to reach Ronbuk. Additionally, visitors are currently not permitted to visit the Everest base camp without climbing permits. However, you can still go as far as 1.5 kilometers before reaching it where you can enjoy similar magnificent views.)
Exploration Day
Enjoy the morning with a beautiful view of Mount Everest and other breathtaking Himalayan peaks. Visit the ancient Ronbuk monastery, the highest-located monastery in the world. Then ride back to Tingri along the same road for a short trip, where you can capture stunning pictures of the Himalayas.
Ride back to Kerung
You will travel back to Kerung along the same route, enjoying the beautiful scenery of lakes, mountains, land, and local Tibetan villages.
Ride back to Kathmandu
You will travel to the Nepal-Tibet immigration checkpoint, bid farewell to the Tibetan driver and guide, complete the necessary immigration procedures, and then continue your journey back to Kathmandu along the same route.

The best time to visit Tibet is from April to early November, with August and September being the most ideal months. Lhasa has a milder climate compared to the rest of Tibet, making it suitable for year-round travel.
