Langtang Valley Trek offers one of the most fulfilling short treks in Nepal, boasting spectacular alpine scenery and opportunities to connect with unique individuals. It is recommended for trekkers to plan for at least a week while allowing extra time for acclimatization and optional side trips within the valley.
While traversing Langtang National Park during this journey, there are chances to encounter various wildlife such as monkeys, musk deer, Pika, and the vibrant Danphe bird — Nepal’s national symbol. The trek can commence from either Dhunche or Syabru Besi.
This area is home to indigenous Tamang and Sherpa communities whose distinctive culture, attire, and food are heavily influenced by Tibetan Buddhism. Along the trail, you’ll come across ancient monasteries as well as small stupas adorned with prayer flags and wheels at various locations.
This trekking path is classified as one of the moderate trails in the Nepalese Himalayas. Although there are uphill sections, only a few have a steep incline, so it’s advisable to bring along personal knee support. Engaging in general cardiovascular exercise is also advised.
Arrival in Kathmandu
Our team will greet you at the airport arrival terminal with a personalized name-card and then accompany you to your hotel in a private vehicle. We'll also have a brief gathering in the evening to discuss the trip ahead.
Drive to Syabrubesi (2,380m)
This long bus or private vehicle journey of around eight hours will transport you to a location known as Syabrubesi, where you'll encounter the famous Trishuli River, popular for white water rafting. The route is rough and winding, taking you north out of Kathmandu through picturesque foothills until you reach Syabrubesi via Dhunche. As you travel alongside the Trishuli River, you'll catch sight of Ganesh Himal, terraced fields, and lush green hills.
Trek to Lama Hotel (2,500m)
After the exhilarating drive yesterday, the initial day of trekking involves following the Langtang Khola trail and progressing towards a rhododendron forest as you make your way up to Rimche through numerous bamboo forests. There is a good opportunity to spot red pandas and bears along the trails.
Trek to Langtang Village (3,307m)
Today's path traces Gumanechowk, Ghoda Tabela (or Horse Stable), and a picturesque valley with views of yak pastures. Langtang village is among the oldest and most genuine villages on this trekking route. The scenery from here is breathtaking due to our proximity to the mountains.
Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3,798m)
After breakfast today, we will head towards Kyanjin Gompa. This destination features an ancient Buddhist monastery and a local yak cheese factory. Expect a brief hike today and the opportunity for nearby sightseeing.
Exploration Day
It's a day for relaxation and exploration in the Kyanjin Gompa area. There are options to visit the monastery and cheese factory, take a walk up the moraine to view the stunning ice faces and glaciers of Langtang Lirung, or hike up Kyangjin Ri (4,350 meters), which is the highest point of this trek. This offers an awe-inspiring panoramic view of Langtang Lirung, Shisa Pagma, Dorje Lakapa, and other snow-capped peaks. Additionally, there are various non-technical peak climbing opportunities available.
Trek back to Lama Hotel (2,500m)
After having our morning meal in Kyanjin Gompa, we will descend back to Lama Hotel.
Trek to Syabrubesi (1,462m)
Today, you will descend from the mountains and return to Syabrubesi, which marks both the starting and ending point of your trek.
Drive back to Kathmandu
After having breakfast, we will return to Kathmandu from Syabrubesi. The journey back will take around 9 hours by bus or private vehicle, depending on the size of the group. You will be taken to the same hotel where you originally departed from.
Departure
Upon conclusion of the trip, our Airport Representative will transport you to Kathmandu International Airport for your departure from Nepal.
During the trek, you will encounter numerous Yak pastures and a local cheese factory. The ideal times to embark on this trek are during autumn and spring when you can also enjoy the vibrant rhododendron forest.
Our guide Naruto was extremely kind and knowledgeable about the trek. He provided valuable assistance and motivation, always demonstrating patience. The trek itself offered breathtaking views and we encountered unique sights like yaks, baby yaks, and a frozen lake. We captured numerous photographs of the mountains and rivers during our journey. I also want to express my gratitude to our porters for their essential role in transporting all our equipment without which this experience would not have been possible. Our adventure was made possible by Sherpa Village Trek, whom I wholeheartedly recommend.
We had an incredible time and a very genuine experience during our trek in Langtang Valley. Our group consisted of 8 individuals with varying ages and abilities. Our guide, Naruto, demonstrated respect and patience for each person in the group, making everyone feel comfortable. Although the trekking was challenging at times, the scenery was absolutely stunning. It truly was a once-in-a-lifetime experience made possible by Naruto and our porters. Many thanks!
Our entire journey was amazing, starting from the airport pick-up and transfer to our hotel. Sasuke greeted us and introduced us to our guide Naruto and our porter Sakura. Thanks to their exceptional care, the trip went smoothly as they ensured we had everything we required and more. We would certainly choose Sherpa Village again, specifically requesting for Naruto and Sakura. Thank you, Sherpa Village Trek team.
